Grecia Quiroz presented this Friday to the IMPI the applications to register the brands “Carlos Manzo” and “Movimiento Independiente del Sombrero”, processes that are currently being analyzed.
Mexico City, November 28 (However).- Greece Quiroz, Alcaldesa of Uruapan and widow of Carlos Manzopresented before the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (WAR) las requests to registrar as brands her husband’s name and denomination “Independent Hat Movement”.
The news was announced this Friday by Santiago Nietogeneral director of the institute, who reported that these requests remain in revision and that the agency will monitor the procedure until its conclusion.
“On November 14, Grecia Quiroz, mayor of Uruapan, submitted the trademark registration application for ‘Carlos Manzo’ and ‘Movimiento Independiente del Sombrero’ to @IMPI_Mexico. These applications are being analyzed and we will accompany their process until they are resolved,” she wrote on her X account, formerly Twitter.

The request was made two weeks after the attack in which Carlos Manzo was murdered during the Candle Festival, which occurred on November 1 in Uruapan, Michoacán.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, three men participated directly in the attack against Manzo; one died at the scene and the other two, identified through follow-up efforts, were found dead on November 10.
In addition, the authorities detained seven bodyguards of the Mayor and the alleged mastermind of the crime, identified as Jorge Antonio “N”, alias “El Licensed”, who remains in preventive detention.
Since then, Grecia Quiroz took office in Uruapa, who – according to a survey by the pollster Poligrama – leads the preferences for the governorship of Michoacán with 43.4 percent of citizen support.
