With a historic federal investment of 147 million pesos, the governor of Michoacán, Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla and the coordinator of the General Plan Lázaro Cárdenas of the National Water Commission (Conagua)Jorge Joaquín González Bezares, started the rehabilitation work of the San Pedrito, Las Garzas and Janitzio treatment plants, for the sanitation of the Lake Patzcuaro.

The Michoacan president highlighted that this is one of the actions of the Michoacán Plan for Peace and Justice, promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, who is interested in continue with the rescue work initiated by the state government and the inhabitants of indigenous communities to save one of the most important bodies of water in the country.
He explained that with the rehabilitation of these three hydraulic infrastructures, the volume of treated water will increase by more than 400 percent, going from 33.18 liters per second to 177 liters per second.
He announced that next year the federal government will invest more resources to rehabilitate other treatment plants that will operate with solar panels to reduce electricity costs; as well as works for the modernization of the Chapultepec irrigation district.
Ramírez Bedolla noted that two years ago Lake Pátzcuaro went through one of the strongest water crises in history, caused, among other things, by climate change. “The island of Janitzio was almost a peninsula. The outlook was bleak and there was no solution at hand,” he recalled to benefited residents of the municipalities of Pátzcuaro, Quiroga, Erongaricuaro and Tzintzuntzan.
He reported that with work in the territory and without extensive studies, tasks such as stocking fish, the reforestation of millions of trees and rehabilitation of wetlands and springs have allowed Lake Pátzcuaro to be brought back to life, with the island of Urandén, as one of the success stories.

For his part, the coordinator of the Lázaro Cárdenas General Plan of Conagua, Jorge Joaquín González Bezares, highlighted the interest of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo of meet the needs of Michoacánamong them the cleanup of Lake Pátzcuaro, as an act of social justice for its inhabitants.
He detailed that there will be four sanitation works that will be carried out in 2026 in the four municipalities of the Lake Pátzcuaro basin, one of them is Las Trojes, for which work is already underway on the project.
