Kolkata Knight Riders stole the spotlight after splurging a record ₹25.20 crore on Australian all-rounder Cameron Green, making it the highest amount ever paid for an overseas player at an IPL auction. The signing came after an intense bidding war with Chennai Super Kings, eclipsing the previous overseas auction record held by Mitchell Starc.
However, as per IPL regulations, Green’s playing salary for the season will be capped at ₹18 crore, with the remaining amount diverted to the BCCI’s player development fund. The Australian brings proven pedigree, having previously represented Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and has 707 runs and 16 wickets from 29 IPL matches.
The auction also delivered major surprises. Indian batters Prithvi Shaw and Sarfaraz Khan went unsold despite strong recent domestic performances — Sarfaraz had smashed a 22-ball 73 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. New Zealand opener Devon Conway, too, failed to attract a bid.
KKR briefly entered the race for Venkatesh Iyer but pulled out as Royal Challengers Bengaluru snapped up the Indian all-rounder for ₹7 crore.
Among other notable deals, South African veteran David Miller was picked up by Delhi Capitals at his base price of ₹2 crore, while Quinton de Kock returned to Mumbai Indians for ₹1 crore.
In total, 350 players from a pool of 1,390 are set to be auctioned over the course of the IPL 2026 player sale. The auction list includes 240 Indian players and 110 overseas cricketers, with 16 capped Indians and 96 capped overseas players in the mix. Here’s the list:
